"Bury a statue of Saint Joseph in the yard."
What? Really?
Apparently so, because you can actually purchase "Saint Joseph Real Estate Kits" online.
Now, I don't consider myself the most superstitious person (even though I do still hold my breath through tunnels) but I seriously considered trying it. I mean, it couldn't hurt, right?
To help decide the matter (or at least feel a little less nuts), I decided to reach out to my friends. I asked:
"Are you superstitious? If yes, give an example."
Yes. Like anytime I see a penny heads up on the ground, I have to pick it up for all day long good luck.
Very, I am a Midwestern Catholic. I buy into it all that stuff throwing salt over your shoulder, not walking under a ladder, mirror breaking, etc...
Yes but in a basic way. I believe in signs, prophetic dreams, things like that.
Friday the 13th and I don't get along. I've almost been hit by lightning, on two separate occasions I've come close enough to getting hit by a car to have my hands on the hood, I've been dumped, and I've had a major car breakdown all on Friday the 13th.
No superstitious behaviors really.
Yes. If I forget to put my rings on in the morning I'll turn around and go get them.
I don't know if it's superstition but when I watch the Reds, Steelers, Pens, or WVU play while I'm at home I don't feel right unless I'm drinking out of a pint glass that has their logo on it.
When I'm watching a game, I'll turn off the TV or go in another room if the team was doing better before I started watching.
Yes. I don't split poles. Like when walking with someone you never walk on opposite sides of poles... Bad luck man!
Latter: no, I'm not.
I used to own "Worry Dolls" when I was a little girl. You tell them your problems and then put them under your pillow. Your worries will be gone in the morning.
Nah.... Not really... Though I have a 'lucky' t shirt I guess I used to wear for tests...
I'd say less superstitious and more OCD. I hate multiples of three and will avoid them, i.e. read an extra page so I don't leave off in a multiple of 3. Yes, I know I am crazy.
No, I'm not.
I can be. One the first day of every month the first words I say are "rabbit rabbit" for good luck. And I hate odd numbers and coins facing tails.
I wanted to say yes because everyone has some type of ritual or item they are superstitious about but to be honest, I can't think of one. Is that weird? Or just shows my new old age and that college fried my brain.
On game day, Michigan football of course ;) I've always gotta do this handshake w my sister, even if its over face time.
Since I'm kind of getting into this, I thought I would pull out a few more from a book my Mom got me: " Witches, Ghosts and Signs: Folklore of the Southern Appalachians"
It is bad luck to kill a cricket. Duh.
If a picture is tilting on the wall, it means bad luck.
If a wedding ring be lost, the couple will separate.
To have good luck, always get out of bed on the right side. Guess I'm going to have to start rolling over Jamison every morning...
When your shoe is untie, someone has been thinking of your love.
If you splash water on yourself while washing clothes, you will have a drunken husband.
It is bad luck to step on or walk over a grave.
If a bird flies in the window, someone in your family will die. Dang, dramatic much?
Anyone else out there believe in any superstitions?

Getting up on the "right" side of the bed, means your usual side. Not the "right" side.
